I’m excited to see our new journal article published today in Higher Education, Skills and Workforce Learning regarding the impact of virtual team and collaborative online international learning (COIL) projects on intercultural sensitivity and technology acceptance, especially computer self-efficacy, anxiety, and perceived ease of use.
We measured this during the COVID-19 pandemic from spring 2020 through fall 2021 in different cohorts and find positive effects of virtual teams on intercultural sensitivity (ISS), computer self-efficacy, perceived ease of use of online learning, and in reducing COVID-19 anxiety. The interaction confidence component of ISS improved more for students in the global vs. domestic teams and technology-related outcomes (CSE, PEU and computer anxiety) and ISS (“respect for cultural differences”) improved more for students that participated in tech projects. But, COVID-19 anxiety lessened more for those that participated in non-tech projects.
